Meet demand for natural wool and regenerated products in China |

Demand for wool yarn in China market |
China imported more wool yarn in 2018, with an import value of over USD 206 million, a 2.1% increase from the previous year. A rise in disposable income has coincided with China’s newfound demand for tailoring and high-quality natural products, making wool yarn a popular sourcing point for trade buyers. |

“China is one of the biggest consumer markets in the world, so of course there are many potential customers. Technology is now very good in China, there are many independent fashion brands, which often have very mature e-commerce backgrounds. These smaller brands can reach their customers very directly and they have advanced warehouse systems compared to Western markets, so the turnover is a bit different. So that’s why, if you have the right products and hit the right price points, there is huge potential for selling in China. That’s why we have come to this fair – Yarn Expo is known as a prime platform to target the Chinese market. We have had a lot of enquiries, a lot of new potential customers walking in. I would say it’s a good sign.” |

High demand for sustainability, in the China market and worldwide
|
In recent years, the China government has paid more attention to environmental protection, while consumers have become more aware of the products they purchase. Industry buyers are now focusing not only on fabrics, but also on fibres and yarns, to meet market demand for regenerated products and circularity. |
|
Around 30% of buyers were looking for regenerated yarn at Yarn Expo Autumn 2018, indicating a 48% increase in sustainability-focused buyers over the last two years. |

“Creating an environmentally-friendly product begins with fibre, and brands are increasingly recognising this. It’s important to be at Yarn Expo, because it provides a good platform to meet everybody in one place over just three days. Birla Cellulose has a lot of customers here at Yarn Expo – not only spinners, but from the entire supply chain. We use Yarn Expo as a marketing platform to tell our own innovative story. We are happy to see that our peers in this hall also have yarn and fibre innovations, which are more relatable to our own brand.” |

Visitor opinions |
|
“China is an especially good market because there are many good suppliers and companies and technically, it is getting better and better. Because of rising pollution levels, I predict that there will be more and more demand for recycled fibres in the market, and cotton has a good future too.” |

“Yarn Expo is good in terms of management, it’s easy to find each booth, it’s well organised into product groups and countries. I visit every year. Our main aim at Yarn Expo is to find innovation and new trends – the big trend now is sustainability, customers are asking for this and everybody at this fair is promoting it. We are ready to pay for this. I think that this is the number one fair for yarn, and many of my peers agree.” |
